Overall, the changes have been positive and enhanced Google Business Profile’s usefulness as a tool to increase online visibility. Dental practices that do not rely heavily on their Google profile may not notice the difference, but those that do need to know what to expect going forward.

google business

What is Google Business Profile?

Many users still call it by its former name, Google My Business. The name change to Google Business Profile (GBP) took place in late 2021. Essentially, it’s a free tool that helps businesses manage their online presence across all of Google’s apps and functions. Any business — including a dental practice — can take advantage of GBP, improving customers’, in our case patients’, ability to find them through online search and apps like Google Maps. When a dental practice has a complete and accurate profile, patients can learn more than just its location and contact info. For instance, the business profile also shows reviews submitted through Google, which are vital for patients when choosing a dentist.

What’s Changed? The Good and the Not So Good.

Google has announced and implemented several changes to GBP so far this year. Most are positive for businesses and dental practices, expanding GBP’s capabilities. A couple of changes that became effective after July 31st took away functions that some practices had been using. However, this does not diminish the importance of using GBP. It just means practices need to find alternatives for those functions. Let me break it down:

  1. NEW – Socials Appear on Profile: This is huge! Practices with active social media pages can now list them on GBP, and patients can go to them directly from the profile. Since the practice’s GBP is usually the first thing a patient sees when searching on Google or in Maps, it’s extremely convenient that they no longer have to scroll through the search results or initiate a new search to also find the practice on Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube. Now, along with the practice’s website, patients will see active links to its social media channels for easier engagement.
  2. NEW – Emoji Reactions: Practices can now use emojis, like a heart or a smiley face, to react to patient reviews. This may not seem like much, but it could potentially make a real difference. Having the ability to use emoji reactions brings a more social media look and feel to the Google profile. Now, it’s even easier for practices to engage with reviews. If the practice’s marketing manager wants to show appreciation for a great review a patient just posted, they can immediately react with a heart or other symbol of gratitude.
  3. NEW – Terms and Conditions: As with any major application update, GBP users are required to accept some new terms and conditions. The updated terms have implications for content management, data access, licensing, compliance, service termination, and more. While none of the new conditions is particularly surprising, reading through them before hitting the “I Accept” button is generally a good idea.
  4. GOING AWAY – Chat: After July 31, 2024, patients can no longer use GBP to initiate a chat with the dental practice. This will impact practices that regularly receive incoming messages directly from GBP. To prevent continuity issues and missed messages, dental practices can switch to another chat function, with many reputable ones to choose from. Additionally, the practice’s chat history is still available to download from Google Takeout.
  5. GOING AWAY – Call History: Starting August 1, 2024, Google no longer tracks calls as part of its engagement metrics. Call history will no longer be visible with GBP, only downloadable via Google Takeout. This means a practice will have to track that metric manually rather than rely on Google’s analytics. The call feature remains. So, patients can still contact the practice directly from its profile. The difference is that those calls are no longer included in measuring engagement.

Overall, Google Business Profile is an excellent tool for dental practices. The benefits to a practice’s online presence far outweigh any changes in functionality or tracking capability. For practices actively managing their GBP, staying on top of current and future updates is essential to prevent interruptions to patient communications and take advantage of any new features.

National Oral Health Leader Launches Major Ad Campaign to Support Medicare Dental Benefit https://www.dentistrytoday.com/national-oral-health-leader-launches-major-ad-campaign/ Wed, 29 Sep 2021 17:34:33 +0000 https://www.dentistrytoday.com/national-oral-health-leader-launches-major-ad-campaign/

CareQuest Institute for Oral Health®a national organization focused on improving oral health of all, today launched a multi-platform digital advertising campaign advocating for the inclusion of dental coverage under Medicare Part B.

The United States Senate included a Medicare dental benefit as part of its budget blueprint released in August and is expected to release a formal legislative package this fall. The launch of the digital campaign is part of CareQuest Institute’s efforts to secure passage of this benefit that would improve the health of millions of Americans.

“Of the 60 million Medicare beneficiaries, 26 million do not have dental coverage,” said Dr. Myechia Minter-Jordan, president and CEO of CareQuest Institute for Oral Health. “This means a population that is disproportionately people of color, rural Americans, and people with disabilities is left without basic care that affects their physical and mental well-being. If we care about ending the deep health disparities in this country, we must include dental coverage under Medicare Part B.”

The campaign will encourage individuals to sign a petition asking Congress to pass the dental benefit and will target key Senate seats, including Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington.

Oral health care is essential care, especially for older adults. According to the CDC, one in five adults aged 65 years or older have untreated tooth decay or have lost all their teeth and more than two in three older adults have gum disease. Poor oral health has a direct impact on overall health and is associated with increased risk of chronic illnesses like heart disease and diabetes, as well as mental health.

In August, CareQuest Institute joined with a coalition of leading health professionals to send a letter urging Congress to include dental coverage under Medicare. If passed by Congress, the legislation would help improve rates of dental visits among historically marginalized populations and lower-income beneficiaries, reduce long-term health care costs, and more.

Adding dental coverage to Medicare is also popular with voters: A recent CareQuest Institute poll revealed that eight in 10 voters favored the inclusion of dental benefits in Medicare.

Help Say Thank You To Our Heroes With Freedom Day USA on October 14th https://www.dentistrytoday.com/help-say-thank-you-to-our-heroes-with-freedom-day-usa/ Wed, 29 Sep 2021 14:38:14 +0000 https://www.dentistrytoday.com/help-say-thank-you-to-our-heroes-with-freedom-day-usa/

How can we say thank you to our military and their families for their sacrifice?

This is the question Freedom Day USA Founder, Dr. Robert Martino, asked himself and the answer has grown into a National Thank You Movement.  “It started out as a normal morning. I was in the shower and grumbling about all the stuff I had to do that day. Then I heard a song on the radio by Lonestar titled “I’m Already There.” But this version was different. Over the song’s lyrics were messages of military family members describing how they missed their loved ones overseas. In these voices, I fully realized the sacrifices they make for our country. Wiping away tears, I decided we needed to do more to help our troops and their families.”

The result of that decision is Freedom Day USA. We wanted this to be a national “thank you” movement. Because Dr. Martino is a dentist, the event began in dental offices across the country who gave military families and veterans a day of dental care at no cost… whether it’s cleanings, extractions or fillings. Initially, the idea was to do this in Martino’s seven dental offices in West Virginia, but that changed when he met with a group of peers in the Platinum Circle. He explained the idea and showed them the official Freedom Day USA video that goes with the Lonestar song and they eagerly jumped on board.

Since then, things have really taken off. Freedom Day has gone national and expanded beyond dentistry. In addition, the event has received recognition and inquiries from 60 Minutes, the O’Reilly Factor, the Wounded Warrior Project and a member of Congress who sits on the House Armed Services Committee. In the last nine years business have given over 20 Million dollars of free services to veterans, military members and their families.

If you’ve been looking for a way to give back to our Military and show your appreciation of their Service to our Country and the sacrifices both they and their families have made for our freedoms – you need to consider joining Freedom Day USA! There is no cost to join and to be a part of Freedom Day. You only have to see one veteran, military member, or military member’s family for free that day.

This year’s Freedom Day is October 14th and you can easily sign up at www.FreedomDayUSA.org.

Once you sign up, you will get an electronic welcome packet that explains how to have a successful Freedom Day.

“We have been celebrating Freedom Day USA for the last nine years and it is the one day my staff looks forward to the most.” Martino added. “The news comes and we really get to show our veterans and their families how much we appreciated them. It is a great feeling to give back to them”

Sale of Two Glasgow Dental Businesses Demonstrates Huge Buyer Demand https://www.dentistrytoday.com/sale-of-tw-glasgow-dental-businesses-demonstrates-huge-buyer-demand/ Wed, 29 Sep 2021 14:16:24 +0000 https://www.dentistrytoday.com/sale-of-tw-glasgow-dental-businesses-demonstrates-huge-buyer-demand/

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of two Glasgow dental practices; Patrick G Neilan B D S to a first-time buyer, and Scotstoun Dental Practice to a large dental group.

Patrick G Neilan B D S is a well-established, two-surgery NHS dental practice, with a dedicated patient base of over 2,800 patients. It offers significant scope for further potential including longer opening hours and the introduction of specialist treatments. The business is located on Kilmarnock Road in Shawlands – a popular residential suburb in the south side of Glasgow, approximately four miles from the city centre.

The practice was previously owned by Mr Patrick Neilan who has been operating as a dentist since 1975, firstly as an Associate and then, in 1992, as the sole Principal of the practice at its current site. Patrick G Neilan B D S has been sold to first-time buyer, Mrs Jennifer Logan, who was an Associate at another practice in the area.

Mrs Logan comments, “As a former patient at the practice, I had some knowledge of the patient base and the loyalty that they felt for the previous owner. Since taking over, the patients have been very understanding and obviously sad to see Mr Neilan go. However, they have welcomed new techniques and embraced different approaches, more specialist treatment and most recently facial aesthetics.”

The second practice sold is Scotstoun Dental Practice, formerly TKB & LD WRIGHT Dental Surgeons, a two-surgery practice based on Dumbarton Road in Glasgow. Established over 90 years ago, the practice has been owned by Mr Kerr and Mrs Lesley Wright since 1981 and was brought to market to allow the pair to pursue a well-earned retirement. The business has been purchased by a large Scottish dental group after a short marketing period.

Joel Mannix, Senior Business Agent at Christie & Co, who handled the sales, comments, “These are two very different dental practices – one is fully Associate-led that attracted attention from group operators looking to add to their portfolios, and the other being of interest to independent first-time buyers. Both sales attracted a great deal of interest which is commonplace in the Scottish dental market.

“So far in 2021, Christie & Co has sold a record number of dental practices in Scotland – this activity level doesn’t show signs of slowing down and is likely to continue for the foreseeable.”

Patrick G Neilan B D S and Scotstoun Dental Practice were sold for undisclosed sums.

In 2021, North America dominated the global clear aligners market. The market growth in the region is driven by the presence of well-developed healthcare facility centres equipped with modern-age equipment and instruments, an increasing number of dental disorders, and the robust distribution and sales network of important vendors. The US has the largest number of start-up companies than other countries in North America. Most of the start-ups in the US are focusing on advanced care with innovative technologies. For instance, Candid Care Co, a New York-based start-up founded in 2017, offers clear teeth aligners for teeth straightening. A customer needs to buy a starter kit to provide the orthodontists with teeth impressions. The orthodontists then deigns the custom aligners and then they are delivered to the customer. Similarly, SmileDirectClub is a teeth-straightening start-up headquartered in Tennessee, US was founded in 2014. SmileDirectClub offers 3D-printed clear aligners, has 300 locations in the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia. Further, strategic activities by the major players in the region would offer lucrative opportunities for the clear aligners market during the forecast period. For instance, on September 24, 2020, 3D Predict, an international software developer and manufacturer of clear aligners based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology, announced its launch in the US with a new headquarter in New York. The medical technology company has worked globally, building recognition for its one-of-a-kind AI software that reportedly produces highly precise 3D models of the smile, such as the crowns, bone, and roots. These models are then used to design clear aligners. In addition, in January 2021, dental technology supplier, Dentsply Sirona Inc acquired Byte, a maker of custom teeth aligners, for $1.04 billion.

The clear aligners market in Asia Pacific is anticipated to grow at the fastest rate in the coming years. The market growth in the region is attributed to a few factors such as the rising geriatric population, increasing malocclusion prevalence, and the growing government initiatives for awareness regarding dental disorders. In addition, growing healthcare expenditure is likely to create lucrative opportunities for the market during the forecast period.

Based on type, the clear aligners market is segmented into polyurethane plastic, polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and others. The polyurethane plastic segment accounted for more than 38.84% of the market share in 2021. In terms of distribution channel, the clear aligners market is segmented into direct sales, laboratories, and others. The laboratories segment held the largest share of the market in 2021 as these labs offer quick and accurate results, such as a same-day turnaround in many situations. In addition, the labs use advanced technologies, such as 3D printing, for the preparation of dental products. This helps in accurate designing as per the patient requirements. In terms of age group, the adults segment accounted for a larger share in the clear aligners market in 2021.

Computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) are the software that help dentists to accomplish complex procedures faster, effortlessly, and accurately. The CAD/CAM technology helps repair dental veneers, crowns, inlays, onlays, and bridges from a single block of ceramics that makes the final product more accurate than conventional fabrication methods.

Advancements in dental materials and computer technologies have helped CAD/CAM-fabricated restorations not just possible in dentistry but plentiful. When using CAD/CAM systems, operators can fabricate restorations from several elements, such as ceramics, metal alloys, and various composites. Also, dental service consumers are becoming more demanding in terms of aesthetics, with a clear notion for a minimum of staying and delaying in the dental offices. CAD/CAM technology, for the milling of prostheses in dental laboratories and dental offices, has helped to meet the demand of cosmetic dentistry users.

A few of the benefits offered by these systems comprise user-friendly operations, digital impressions, single-visit treatment, accelerated practice growth, improvement in patient safety, and long-lasting restorations. The CAD/CAM technology offers real-time troubleshooting that decreases the remaking of dental fixtures as the system can notify incorrect bit-offs.

Additionally, CAD/CAM warrants that dental practitioners can place a final and complete recovery in a week. Dentists have found that patients treated using these technologies have experienced fewer side effects of the treatment. CAD/CAM technology is rapidly being approved in the dental industry as it permits dentists to enhance their services and offer their patients a suitable experience. Thus, the advantages provided by CAD/CAM technology in dentistry are likely to boost the growth of the clear aligners market in the coming years.

Clear Aligners Market: Segmental Overview

In terms of type, the polyurethane plastic segment is anticipated to register the highest CAGR during the forecast period. Polyurethane is a versatile elastomer plastic. It is used in various proportions in clear aligners manufacturing. This type of plastic has various properties such as hardness, flexibility, water and oil resistance, strong bonding property with compounding materials, and tear resistance. The polyurethane type of materials after prolonged exposure to the oral environment/intraoral use causes deformities in the products. In terms of distribution channel, the laboratories segment accounted for more than 29% share of the global clear aligners market in 2021. In terms of age group, the market for the adults segment is anticipated to grow at a steady pace during the forecast period.

The COVID-19 outbreak has disturbed various trades and businesses across the world. As per the CDC Guidance for dental settings, the US has prioritized the most critical dental services and provided care to minimize harm to patients from delaying care and damage to personnel and patients from potential exposure to SARS-CoV-2 infection. The interim guidance has been renewed based on the latest information about COVID-19 and the current circumstances in the US. As dental healthcare departments begin to restart elective procedures by the administration from local and state officials, some anticipations should remain in place as a part of the ongoing response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Precaution such as wearing eye protection in addition to a facemask to ensure the eyes, nose, and mouth are all protected and usage of an N95 respirator.

As the oral treatment and procedures are directly contacted with patients’ oral fluid. It creates a possible risk of infections. Therefore, to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus, it is requested to maintain social distancing, which is affecting the clear aligners market growth.

CityMD Co-founders Change the Way People Experience Dentistry With dntl bar Startup https://www.dentistrytoday.com/citymd-co-founders-change-way-experience-dentistry-with-dntl-bar/ Tue, 28 Sep 2021 14:48:58 +0000 https://www.dentistrytoday.com/citymd-co-founders-change-way-experience-dentistry-with-dntl-bar/

dntl bar is Known for Providing Enjoyable, Patient-First Care in New York City

Gone are the days of booking a dentist appointment months in advance and dreading the impersonal and often painful experience that comes with laying in a dental chair as someone pokes and prods your mouth. dntl bar—New York City’s most enjoyable and convenient dental practice from the team behind CityMD, the Northeast’s largest urgent care provider—puts patients at the center of its service at its three Manhattan locations, offering quality care and same-day appointments, clear pricing and comfortable visits. Forget old magazines in stuffy waiting rooms, now patients can watch Netflix, use aromatherapy products, stay warm under a cozy blanket and relax in massage chairs at the dentist office.

“The dental industry, like most healthcare systems, has evolved into a payer- or provider-first oriented system. While not necessarily the intent of many hard working clinical professionals, it has nonetheless become a place where the consumer is found standing last in line,” dntl bar co-founder and CEO and CityMD co-founder Nedal Shami says. “From making an appointment, following up for your care, paying a bill or even the basic principles of respecting your time and starting on time, nothing is simple for the patient. We think we can change that.”

Shami thought he could apply what he did at CityMD and reinvent the experience of going to the dentist to make it accessible, affordable and enjoyable, instead of outdated and impersonal. Shami grew CityMD into a billion dollar company with 150 locations, transforming the way customers sought emergency care, and believes people should get the same access to dental care. So in 2019—dntl bar opened its first location in Chelsea which received immediate validation in the market with an industry-leading amount of new patient appointments and raving customer reviews. dntl bar has since added two more locations in Union Square and the Financial District, and plans to open two more sites by the beginning of 2022.

dntl bar stays open seven days a week from 8 am until 8 pm on the weekdays and 9 am until 5 pm on the weekends, making it easier for patients to find time to get to the dentist for everything from check-ups and teeth whitening to teeth straightening and emergency work. Unlike at standard dentist offices, dntl bar never wants patients to have to wait to see one of their top-rated dentists, so they provide same-day and same-week appointments that can be easily booked online. They also offer SMS communications for patients who want to be able to communicate with ease. Because dntl bar prioritizes transparent pricing and doesn’t want patients to be surprised when they see their bill, it’s in-network with most PPO insurance plans.

When patients arrive at one of dntl bar’s three locations, they walk into a modern lounge and are greeted by a friendly front desk attendant. They can grab noise-cancelling headphones to wear during the procedure or opt to listen to music or stream their favorite Netflix series when they see the dentist. dntl bar uses high tech equipment and machinery, and the clinical staff undergoes a rigorous hiring process; they also receive regular reviews to ensure they continue to provide top-notch, patient-first care. Because of its luxury accommodations, accessibility and gold-standard service, dntl bar boasts an NPS of 90 compared to the industry average of 1.

dntl bar believes people deserve higher quality dental care that actually puts them first and aims to bring a cost-effective, straightforward option to more people than ever before. dntl bar has started a movement with its decision to center its care around patients rather than billings, and it was that transparency and industry-disrupting concept that kept people coming in throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, during which dntl bar only continued to grow and draw in new clients. dntl bar plans to bring its transparent and high-end approach to 50 locations in multiple cities within the next five years.
